Chinese OEMs continue to advance into the regional BEV market, soaking up 13% (unlucky for some) of the regional new BEV car market so far this year. However, things may not be entirely what they seem, with a likely push from manufacturers to clear inventory models before another General Safety Requirement (GSR 2) EU type-approval change from July 2026. Meanwhile, subsidiary schemes that include Chinese models, such as Italy, are seeing between 40-50% of their new BEV volumes come from Chinese OEMs and helping the Leapmotor legacy model, the T03, enter the top 10 BEV models list so far this year. Germany is also set to include Chinese models from the summer, which would likely lead to a record June, aligned with the first signs of any change in consumer sentiment from pump prices, given the delay in order-to-delivery times. While German Chancellor Merz may regret adding Chinese models, his comments, sparking another tariff war with the US over the weekend, have not done much to lighten the mood of German auto bosses struggling to adapt to a slower and more challenging Chinese market and tariff-laden US market...Continues in the full study.
