05/2025: The return of the PHEV?
05/2025: The return of the PHEV?
Edition No. 05-2025 European Electric Car Study – West European Electric Passenger Car Market Trend Study covering the period January - May 2025
We continue to forecast 2.50 million new BEV passenger cars will enter the Western European new passenger car market during 2025, or an increase of 570,000 units over 2024 (+29.5% y/y). 2025 BEV mix forecast remains at 21.6%, rising from 16.7% during full-year 2024. Between January and May, the BEV market grew by 27.9% year-on-year, corresponding to a BEV mix of 18.5%. We have factored in a positive impact from an expected return from the French social-leasing scheme from September, which is expected to see the budget funded from the energy saving certificate (CEE) scheme rather than being funnelled directly from the Finance Department, according to a decree published by the government. We also continue to monitor and await more clarity on the UK's Electric Car Grant, which will be factored into the next edition's forecast.
Automotive market intelligence study aimed at the automotive industry stakeholders and strategic planners, policymakers and all those with a holistic vested interest in the industry and the direction it's heading in.
