Q3 2025 Quarterly Chinese Passenger Car Manufacturer Performance Study, including a forecast to 2030 for total volumes as well as BEVs-only

Product Details
The main topic is how Chinese OEMs are acting as catalysts for new market entrants (NMEs), commanding an ever greater share of the total new-car market. NME volumes (inc. Tesla) will see this form of hyper-competition finish the year with almost 1 million units of a weak 11.7 million unit market. That is adding to incumbent OEMs' frustration further as they attempt to maintain sufficient utilisation rates at their European plants to healthy levels in an already depressed market running at 2.5 million units below pre-COVID "normal" levels.
The final Ford rolling off Germany's Saarlouis plant this week could be an indication of more misery ahead as Chinese OEMs, which have foiled EU protectionist trade barriers placed on BEVs as they mitigated and pivoted to other drivertrains to maintain their volume drive and de-risking from their domestic market, appear to be near-shoring to Europe to avoid tariffs and comply with local content rules, selecting greenfield over current infrastructure, similar to Tesla.
