European electric car forecast revised as regulatory targets, geopolitics, and sentiment strengthens

According to the latest European Electric Car Study over every fourth new passenger car registered across Western Europe set to be a pure electric BEV variant this year

According to the latest study, featuring a full forecast to 2035, 2026 will continue to be shaped by the wider availability of BEVs at lower price and cost points, with B-segment models starting below €25,000. The slight increase in the 2026 forecast is due to sustained elevated pump prices. Germany witnessed a rise in pump prices again in July, following the withdrawal of the state's 2-month, 17-cent discount to maintain price stability following the Hormuz headwind. The already strong forecast prior to that already accounted for the introduction of German BEV purchase subsidies from this summer, implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2026. The Iran impact on the new market will become visible in the months ahead due to the inherent order-to-delivery time across Europe, of 2-3 months...
