With BMW Group's new BEV passenger car registrations, having outpaced Tesla's West European new volumes for a second consecutive quarter, its 12-month trailing total across the same drivetrain fell to within 35,000 units according to the latest Schmidt Automotive Research data, suggesting the combined BEV volumes from the Bavarians may well surpass Tesla on a full year basis in 2025 marking the first time on an annual basis.

That is despite BMW-brand models being in a Gen. 5 phase-out.

Sixth-generation BEV models based on the new Neue Klasse architecture arrive from Q1 2026, while Tesla has just benefitted from the updated version of its Model Y during Q1 2025 and the Model 3 one year prior to that.

BMW data indicates that they have been the primary beneficiary of dissatisfied Tesla consumers across the US.

Although no conquest data was published for Europe, it appears they are partially benefiting, although a larger impact will likely be felt from H1 2026 when the IX3 begins its customer rollout.

Tesla has lost 30% of its annual West European volumes on a 12-month rolling basis from its peak, according to the same Schmidt Automotive Research data.
